This lecture will trace the genealogy of gender and development theories with particular focus on the WID, WAD & GAD debates. It will engage with the reasons why the gender lens became important to analyze development theories and practices and how feminist development scholars continue to make critical interventions in the study of development practices. This lecture will give us the historical context of the study of gender and development in intersectional ways, addressing issues of race, class, and the differences in the global north and south approaches.
