This lecture seeks to contextualise Boko Haram in the ideological debates within Muslim groups and the role religion has played in distributive in/justice in Nigeria. It will focus on the perception of religion as means for access to national resources and accumulation by different regional elites in the country. The lecture takes its point of departure in my personal experiences as trade unionist and feminist at a critical time when religion was gaining prominance in the public space, as well as academic production from a feminist perspective.
