In today’s session, we will look at the ways in which religion and gender intersect as social institutions and cultural practices, and how such intersections produce gendered and religious subjects. By following anthropological and feminist scholarship, we will resist ideas that frame religion in fixed or unchanging terms, and instead understand religion using lenses of practices and representation, and place women’s participation in religious or quasi-religious movements within a political-economic context.
