Please read the following course literature (both available via the GU library website):

1. L. Gostin & D. Sridhar (2014) 'Global health and the law' New England Journal of Medicine, 370, pp. 1732-1740 (General, short, introduction to global health law)

2. A. Taylor (2019) 'Health' in S. Chesterman et al (eds) Oxford Handbook of United Nations Treaties, pp. 339-354 (An introduction to the development of global health law, and more in depth discussion of key areas than the above)

In this lecture we will discuss:

The role of law in public health, and the role of law in global health
- Prior to the lecture, think about the global health issues that arose in MGH101. What are the cross-border (or transnational) aspects of those issues?
WHO as a normative agency
- But think also about the eroding clout of the WHO, with the emergence of new actors (International agencies - e.g. UNAIDS, NGOs, Philanthropies, Companies, etc.)
Other legal frameworks (e.g. human rights, trade, intellectual property) and how they might affect global health
Challenges for global health law

Along the way we will make linkages to global health governance, as well as policy analysis.
