Instead, we will have an interactive lecture. In this class, we will build on the previous lecture', which gave an overview of disaster response and the humanitarian landscape. Yesterday's discussion emphasized different phases of response and the different mandates that organisations have. While this is important, such a view can also become overly technical: as if disaster response is disconnected from the local political economy and separate from human interactions and cultural customs. As we will see today: it is not.
