The University library provides extended support for students with reading impairments. You can get help with access to adapted textbooks, extended loan periods and access to reading studios.

Talking books

A talking book is an audio recorded version of a printed book. They are recorded especially for people who find it difficult to read printed text due to an impairment. Some talking books contain both speech and text. In these, you can see text and images while you are listening. You find talking books in the Legimus catalogue and use them on your computer or smartphone.

Software for computers

You can download softwares that makes it easier for you to read and write. The GU offers both text to speech-software, spelling programs and magnification programs. The programs can be installed on your own computer and you can use them throughout your studies.

Some of the programs are also installed on the libraries' computers.

Reading studio

Reading studios may be used by students and staff at the University of Gothenburg. They offer speech synthesis, spelling programs, magnification programs and technical equipment such as, for example, scanners and printers. To get access to the reading studios you need a certificate from the University's coordinators.

Extended loan period for textbooks

The library provides an extended loan period for students with reading impairments. The loan period is 30 days instead of 14 days. To get an extended loan period you need a certificate from the university coordinator.

Talking books during examinations

The library can help you get talking book versions of your textbooks if you are writing an exam where literature is allowed. Contact us for more information.
