PhD EXAMPLES METHOD STATEMENTS

RTF-innehåll

These are the examples of various PhD projects that we will be looking at during the course with reference to how they make method statements of research method and / or research methodology. In each case we are looking for those extracts / sections from the PhD material that address research method / methodology.

These examples are not selected as “good” examples or as examples of “what-you-should-do.” These are chosen as cases, some of which are not so good, and all of which can be examined for different issues and problems. You are asked to evaluate these for yourself.

(i) The doctoral project’s communication of how the research project was organized and conducted: From reading the material, can you tell others anything about how the research was practically done? What information or content might be missing in each example?

(ii) The doctoral project’s quality of argument and discussion with respect to any wider questions of method/methodology that it may address:  From reading the material, what questions do you have for the text? What function does the general discussion serve in relation to the actual research project?

(iii) Can you identify any common themes and/or challenges across the examples you have read? What are these?

(Note: the googledrive * referenced for where things are not already open access online, will be shared with you shortly.)
