EHG026 Welcome to The Swedish Model in the Labour Market, Autumn 2020!

The Swedish model in the labour market is internationally famous for high levels of union density and collective agreement coverage, few conflicts, the absence of governmental income policy and high female labour participation rates. Compared to the Anglo-Saxon tradition the Swedish labour market is more organised; compared the tradition in continental Europe, the role of the state is less pronounced in Swedish wage formation. Why then is Sweden so different? This course takes a historical perspective on "the Swedish model", exploring its formation and discussing its future in a global economy.
