Summary

In this course, we present a smörgåbord of topics in language technology or computational linguistics at an introductory level to give you an idea of what language technology is and also to introduce you to the Master in Language Technology (MLT) that you can study with us at an advanced level (Second Cycle) and further on at a doctoral level (PhD, Third Cycle) within CLASP and Språkbanken

All lectures will be at an introductory, near popular science, level. The course will address (i) issues in modelling language with computers; (ii) language technology applications; and (iii) how various components of language technology fit together.

At the beginning of the course, you might hear that it is about Language Technology, Natural Language Processing or Computational Linguistics. At that point, you might start wondering what the difference is. Although some researchers might want to draw a line of difference between these terms, they generally seem to be interchangeable and this is also how we will use them in this course. Succinct descriptions of the field can be found here or here.

You need at least 60 credits of courses at grundnivå to start this course. Also, note that most lectures and assignments will be given in English as in the MLT.

The official course syllabus can be found here.
