Welcome to Global Studies: Key Concepts! This course introduces you to some of the main conceptual discussions and empirical inquiries surrounding global issues. It combines insights from different disciplines including human ecology, peace and development studies, and social anthropology. The concepts covered in the course can be used to analyze contemporary global processes such as disembedding and reembedding, mobility, gentrification and political contestation. We will reflect critically on questions of how "the local" and "the global" relate to each other and how contemporary globalization affects life prospects, environments, gender relations, livelihoods, and conflict patterns in different parts of the world.
