Information from your teacher

Dear students!

Warmly welcome to the course New Perspectives on Photography and its Histories. Through two semesters, fall 2021 and spring 2022, we will together encounter and explore current research on and with photography. We will meet researchers active as photographers, curators, academics and writers in the expanding field of photography studies. There will be a strong emphasis on artistic research, but the course also includes and embraces research in other fields and disciplines.

Pedagogically the course is based on a belief in the value of a collective learning process, and therefore the structure of the course is a combination of lectures, artist talks and seminars. The readings and assignments for each class is a base for an active engagement in the group discussions in the seminars. It will also prepare you for dialogues with the invited guests.

The first class is an introduction to the course and one main focus is to learn how to use Canvas, which is the digital platform for the course where information, texts and other material are shared, and the assignments are uploaded. We will also go through and discuss practicalities and codes of conducts for the zoom-meetings. Important the first meeting is of course also to present ourselves, the field in which we are active and what interests that guides our practices.

Please, don’t hesitate to email me if you have any questions.
