This course aims to give students experience of collective and individual practical work in socially engaged art. In the course, students are introduced to different perspectives that can be used to interpret and discuss works of art that are designed as public social actions. Students will also try and interpret ideas about art as critical pedagogy in public contexts.

Questions such as what is socially engaged art? When did artists, curators or others start working on these issues? How are we doing this? What is at stake when a cultural actor engages in political, social and educational issues? These and other similar issues will be discussed and addressed throughout the course.
