Course syllabus

Dear students!

I hope you have had a beautiful summer, with some time off, sun and swim!

Since I was on sick-leave in the spring due to my sister's illness and sad passing away June 4th, I left the spring semester abruptly with several things left to do - planning this course not at least. I'm catching up now, I feel recovered and I am very much looking forward to meet you again. (btw - my last year at Hdk!)

The autumn semester starts Monday, August 30. It will be an intense start, plenty of things in the schedule. Introduction takes place Monday Aug 30 at 13.00, a link will be availabe once Canvas opens up for you.

Due to Covid restrictions, the autumn will be a combination of on-campus - with access to the different workshops and your study space and online teaching.

Feel free to e-mail me, if there are for example schedule/time-plan questions, you have my e-mail adress from before.

  • Show one picture of a work of art you have been influenced by

Course content

In the course the student explores various scenes for craft and art, in theory and in practice. We will analyze the exhibition media: whom is this for, target groups, mission, budget, political guidelines as well as the physical space, conditions in the room. We will also look at how you communicate your art works through the exhibition media, the context, the display, how you explain, write, invite etc.

The course includes to take part in, and to to make, an exhibition with, preferably, the artpieces you made during deeper studies 2, i.e. no new made pieces are expected (there is not time for that). The venues will be presented in august.

Master the Matter

The course includes to take part in, and to to make, an exhibition with, preferably, the artpieces you made during deeper studies 2, i.e. no new made pieces are not expected (there is not time for that!). Three different venues will be presented at the course intro Monday Aug 31st at 13.00.  The conditions for the three spaces vary.Together we have to solve: who shall exhibit where, can all of you show at all the three places; how can these three different spaces benefit you as a group and as individuals in the best way? I found a title for the whole event: Master the Matter, but then it can be subtitles at the different spaces.

Be prepared for a couple of intense weeks in the beginning of the course. Attendance is of high importance.

Leslie Johnsson will give a workshop/lecture on the preparations for an event/exhibition, such as, PR, pressrelease etc.

Week 43

This week is reserved for contemplation an reflexion:

  • rewiev on your former studies,
  • identify a red thread or a core, be honest to yourself
  • search for the answers and put words to difficult questions like: what is important for me in arts and crafts, why do I like/love/enjoy this, am I using my talent in a good way, and
  • how do I want to spend the last months of my education, what shall I concentrate on

Fill in with other important questions if you like. Extract your contemplations in a few strong sentences – or in a longer text, accompanied with images.

Note – this is not a spare week, take good care of the time.

Lectures

A number of lectures will be given, both in connection to the theme of the course and general ones. Look at the schedule.

Corridor exhibitions

The corridor exhibitions are important moments in the education to learn how to look at, to verbalize around and to analyse artpieces and try-outs. It is a safe situation to share and try ideas thet not yet are copleted and to contribute to the common learning. Look for schedules at each departement.
