Welcome to the course GVK460 Biogeochemistry, 7.5 credits, vt22

Introduction

The course focuses on Biogeochemistry of terrestrial ecosystems, as the textbook indicates, but we will also look at global biogeochemical cycles. 

The first meeting will be Friday 18 Feb, at 13:00 - we meet in 'Alexandria' a classroom at the entrance of Geovetarcentrum

Reading instructions:

The textbook is complemented by a chapter on microbial metabolism and global biogeochemical cycles. Some additional scientific papers will also be distributed. Those combined will be the subject of the written examination.

The course will have few traditional lectures, but will mainly be in the form of Flipped classroom, based on the chapters in the textbook (plus complementary articles). All students are expected to have read the chapter/article prior to the class. The respective chapter/papers for each day are provided in the schedule.

Activities:

We are also planning a longer laboratory project and a few excursion days near Gothenburg, for these you need to be physically present and active at the department. I also hope to meet you all almost every day for lecture / group discussions at the department. We will follow the latest regulations and restrictions set for the Covid-situation by the University and the health authorities.
