The first lecture will be pre-recorded (link below). I will make references to Stephen Owen's review article "What is World Poetry" and to Walter Benjamin's classic preface to his translations of Baudelaire, "The Task of the Translator."
Lecture 1 (video and text). Reading assignments week one. Updated March 27!
Lecture 2. Assignment week two.
Lecture 3. Assignment week three.
(For your information and pleasure: article on the Academy.)
Please note that all students are supposed to submit assignment texts, and make a presentation on May 3. According to the syllabus, "To what degree the student has fulfilled the learning outcomes is tested partly through moderation of seminar discussions (1.5 hecs), partly through a final exam (6 hecs)." You will thus receive your grade based on the Final Essay, but participation in the "seminar discussions" is vital for passing the course in its entirety.
Lecture 4. Assignment week four (to be presented during lecture/seminar no. 5)
Lecture 5 (May 3): Students' seminar no. 1 (Assignment week five: final assignment before the Final Essay.)
Lecture 6 + Students' seminar no. 2, schedule.
About the final essay; please submit it here.
