The course examines and evaluates the dispersion of English over the world, with an emphasis on its geographic, economic, cultural and institutional importance. What is the reason for English becoming the global language it is today? How has the global function of English influenced the language development in itself and particularly the linguistic diversity on a global level? The course also has a clear focus on- Global English as an English variety. For this reason, also its linguistic features, discourse practices and uses are investigated.
