Welcome to GS2121: Theories and perspectives! As course convenors of this course, we are delighted to see all of you come on board. We hope and expect, the next twelve weeks will make for a very exciting collection of lectures, debates, seminars, exercises and assignments. This is ambitious course, which traverses a large and diverse academic field. It will be challenging, but hopefully also rewarding. On this canvas site, you find all the information about the course, the sessions, the assignments and so on. The most convenient way to navigate the course (we think) is to use the modules tab, which offers some preliminaries and then takes you from week 1 through to the end, with dates, links, readings, substance etc for all lectures, seminars and assignments listed in chronological order. Please note that the conventional time scheduling at GU is for sessions to start at quarter past (usually 13:15). Reading is centrally important to this course. As you will see, there is quite a bit of this, especially if you are not a native English speaker. Please make sure to start early and allocate enough time. To help you with this, we will establish 'reading pairs' of 2 students (see under 'people' tab who are supposed to brief each other about what they have read before every lecture. The course will start with a general introduction to the whole Master's programme on Monday 29 August, followed by the introduction to GS2121 itself ("lecture 0") on Tuesday 30 August. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Bart. We look forward to seeing all of you very soon. Bart Klem and Florian Kühn |
