Dear all,

thank you for selecting either one of these courses. If you are going for the 10 credits course (SW1119), you start earlier (25 November) and then, from 5th of December, join the SW1118 course. Links to the schedules:

The SW1119 contains three additional sessions in the beginning that introduces the students to the topics of the course, while providing guidance on how to conduct research work with global perspectives in social work. At the sessions, we will go through various methods, both qualitative and quantitive, that are useful in producing research-based essays and reports. The aim is to utilise basic, yet very useful approaches to carry out analytical work in the field of social work that involve global perspectives. The SW1119 ends with a submission of a brief essay on a topic of your own choice, as long as it is within the area of the course.

From 5th December and onwards, the courses are run together and involves a number of lectures, seminars and workshops that aim to fulfil the learning objectives of the syllabus:

Please note that the reading list is the same for both courses:

Furthermore, there will be introductory sessions for each course, on the first day of each course. At these session, I will go through the course; both its contents and practicalities. You will also be invited to present yourselves, ask questions, and make requests. It would be great if you went through the Syllabus and the Reading list ahead of this session.

Also, please download the course schedule to your digital calendars. We will utilise the Canvas announcements to communicate any schedule changes, updates, or any other information. Therefore, please make sure you receive notifications from this course.

I would also advise that you begin reading ahead of the learning sessions, and make other necessary preparations. Almost everything you need should be found in the Modules pages.

To view mandatory tasks, please go to Assignments. (PLEASE NOTE THAT THESE PAGES MIGHT BE SLIGHTLY REVISED UNTIL THE START OF THE COURSE.)

You are also encouraged to find a local organisation that you are able to partner with, in the form of brief field visits, it could be physical or digital visits; or both. More information about this will be provided at the course information.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions, enquiries, and the like.

Finally, my colleagues and I will do our outmost to offer you a valuable learning experience.

A warm welcome to these courses!
