Register for your courses for enrolment:

To be considered a student, you must be registered on your course. You must also be registered to be able access all course material published in Canvas.

You can register the week before the start of the course via Ladok services

About this Course:

FRAKP1 is also called Artistic Practices 1. This will be your main practice course for this term. The course manager is Jason E. Bowman (jason.bowman@gu.se). Jason will also be teaching on the course. Dr. Maddie Leach will also be teaching regularly on the course until the end of November 2022. Dr. Daniel Jewesbury will be the examiner for this course.

The first day of term for Fall 2022 is on Monday 29 August (Week 35). Called 'Start Up Week'  there are lots of activities and sessions throughout that week. It will include you gaining access to the studios and overall introductions to the programme and the institution.

Course calendars are organised via Time Edit and usually also through weekly listing under Modules on the Canvas pages for each individual course.

It's important that you check Time Edit and weekly module calendars for each individual course that you are registered for, including any Elective Courses.

 

Schedule:

Find your course schedule by searching on the course name or course code in TimeEdit. 

Note that the course schedule is preliminary up to two weeks before the course starts.

 

Schedule for Week 35

You need to check Time Edit for a full schedule and on the weekly Module pages on Canvas. The info below is a basic list of the content for Start Up Week (Monday 29 August until Friday 2 September). Bring a computer to all the sessions.

Monday 29 August

10.00-12.00: Introduction to HDK-Valand for all students.

Meet in the lobby of Vasagatan 50 at 09.45 and Jason will escort you to the room where this happens.

13.00-14.30: Introduction to the MFA Fine Art Programme

Meet in the lobby of Vasagatan 50 at 12.55 and Jason will escort you to the room where this happens.

15.00-16.30: Meet the MFA Fine Art Teaching Team

Tuesday 30 August

09.00-12.00: Shared course Introduction for FRAKP1 and FRAKK1 

Meet in the lobby at 08.55 and Jason will escort you to the room where this happens.

13.00-16.00: Studio Allocation

Meet in the lobby at 13.00 and Jason will escort you to where this happens.

Wednesday 31 August

09.00-10.30: Introduction to the Building

Meet in the lobby at 08.55 and Jason will escort you to the room where this happens.

11.00-12.00: Introduction to Equipment Borrowing and Technical Support

It's important that you attend this session so that you know how this works.

13.00-14.00: Introduction to Advanced-level Studies

Meet in the lobby at 12.55 and Jason will escort you to the room.

Evening of 31 August

18.00-20.00: There will be a social event for year 1 and year 2 students in the evening with staff from

13.00-17.00: Equalities Seminar

Friday 2 September

13.00-15.00: Introduction to your Elective Course (There is a separate Canvas course page for this).

 

Student Portal:

The University's Student Portal gathers information and services for you as a student. 

Under My studies you will find information that is specific to students at HDK-Valand – Academy of Art and Design. .

Study Counselling and Learning Support:

If you think you may need help with planning your studies or need study support during your studies, you are welcome to contact the Study Counsellors at HDK-Valand. Read more at My Studies.  This includes for students with all types of disabilities (physical and psychological) or learning support needs such as those affected by ADD, ADHD, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Social Anxiety etc.

To access such support you need medical certification of your condition. The certification can include by medics from your country of origin. The sooner you contact our Study Counsellors the better so that we can try to organise support where possible. Our study counsellor is Lena Collin: lena.collin@hdk.gu.se. Your communication with Lena is confidential. With your permission Lena can also mediate between teachers and students.
