Course syllabus

August 29 – November 18

Dear students!

This academic year 22/23 the studies return to be completely campus based, with a few exceptions. This is a releif as the energy and the social and professional context is so much easier to absorb when you are surrounded by fellow students, the staff, the studios and all it’s facilities. The importance of the environment can’t be underestimated.

Klara Brynge, currently working as adjunct at jewellry department, will take over the role as program manager at Craft Master’s program. Klara has been working at Hdk for many years and she’s  familiar to how the school works.

The new senior lecturers at the ceramic and textile departement will be presented at this page as soon as it is official.

Charlotta Eidenskog will be your teacher in the first course; “To meet an Audience”. Charlotta worked as guest teacher with the degree show this spring -22. She works at Konstepidemin and she has a long curatorial experience.

The professor and guest teachers that you’ll meet at tutorials are Yuka Oyama (jewellry), Charlotta Eidenskog and Jennifer Forsberg (ceramic), and Birgitta Nordström (textile). Birgitta worked as a senior lecturer for many years at the textile department and has now returned to Hdk to finish her PhD.

Ben Lignell, who we have had the pleasure to have as a guest teacher for several years will come back this year again to hold a series of seminars via zoom, find more info about that below.

Emelie Röndahl, Phd in textile art, will hold a lecture and a workshop on writing applications.

COURSE CONTENT

In the course the student explores various scenes for craft and art, in theory and in practice. We will analyze the exhibition media: whom is this for, target groups, mission, budget, political guidelines as well as the physical space, conditions in the room. We will also look at how you communicate your art works through the exhibition media, the context, the display, how you explain, write, invite etc.

The course includes to take part in, and to to make, an exhibition with, preferably, the art pieces you made during deeper studies 2, i.e. no new made pieces are expected.

CORRIDOR EXHIBITIONS

The corridor exhibitions are important moments in the education to learn how to look at, to verbalize around and to analyse artpieces and try-outs. It is a safe situation to share and try ideas that not yet are completed and to contribute to the common learning. Look for schedules at each departement.
