Description

The objective of this session is to analyse the chronic violence that Mexico has been experiencing for the past decades, how it has impacted its socio-politic dynamics and the different local and national effort for dealing with it in order to promote peacebuilding processes.

Teacher's Background:

Luz Paula has a PhD in Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution from Bradford University in the United Kingdom. She studied a master program in International Relations with focus on Human Rights at Columbia University in New York and a BA in International Relations at Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico. She has a Diploma on Advance Studies in Conflict Resolution from Uppsala University in Sweden and a similar specialization from La Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Colombia. She was research fellow in the Civil Society and Philanthropy Program at Johns Hopkins University in the USA and had a fellowship from the Marie Curie-European Union International Program at the Department of Peace and Conflict Studies at Uppsala University.

Luz Paula is a peace educator, and has combined teaching, research and activism in peace building, conflict transformation, community mediation and the professionalization of the humanitarian action. She has worked in human right organizations in Mexico City and collaborated 4 years in the Ford Foundation as program associated for the Civil Society and Governance Program in Mexico and Central America. In 2010, She was director of the international office in the National Council for the Prevention and Elimination of all forms of Discrimination in Mexico. For 4 years, she was senior lecturer and researcher in the Institute of Latin American Studies at Stockholm University. She is senior lecturer in World Politics and Humanitarian Action in the Master Program in the Theology Department at Uppsala University. Currently, she trains different socio-political actors in conflict transformation, mediation, restorative justice and humanitarian action in Mexico, Chile and Argentina.
