Course syllabus

Welcome to the course EU1141 Democracy and the European Union, 7,5 credits, Spring 2023!

This course is given as a single subject course in European Studies. The course starts on the 23rd of March. 

The course introduction takes place on the 23rd of March 9:15-10:00 in lecture hall D143 and is followed by two introductory lectures on the 24th. You will start  with Lecture 1 in D141 at 10:15-12:00 and this is followed by Lecture 2 at 13:15-15:00. Lecture 2 will only be available pre recorded on canvas.

Registration

To be able to see all the pages on this learning platform, Canvas, you must be registered for the course.

For exchange students: Study Administrator Vendela Lundskog will manually register you on the course on the 16th of March. 

For freestanding studentsYou register yourself online in Ladok between the 16th of March to the 19th of March. More information about registration can be found here.

Literature list: There is no textbook for the course. Readings are listed in relation to each lecture in the different modules.

Preparatory reading: Previous years, students have thought that it was a good idea to post some preparatory reading for students who are not so well acquainted with the EU. To meet this request, we suggest you to read the following before the course, to be better prepared. The text is also the required reading for the first lecture: 

Chapters 2-4 in El-Agraa, Ali M. The European Union: Economics and Policies. Cambridge University Press, 2011. Available here and at the university library.
