Course description

FOU2201 aims to enhance the understanding of education, culture, and identity by focusing on youth from migrant backgrounds in the Nordic countries and in the UK. Critical perspectives on youth as well as young people’s everyday lives, lifestyles and learning are central to the course.

Key concepts, such as gender, sexuality, segregation, youth culture, learning, and globalisation will be addressed. The course especially concerns how different structures of power (i.e., class, gender, sexuality, ethnicity/’race’, religion, age) relate to migrant youths’ identities, everyday life and learning. The overall objective is hence to provide tools for analysing how young migrants’ social/cultural expressions, learning and identities are related to patterns of power relations and societal change.

The implementation of the course takes place digitally and access to a stable network connection is therefore required during the course.

The learning objectives are starting points for the course's structure and content, and indicate the skills and knowledge to be achieved during the course. It is therefore important to refer back to the syllabus during the course.
