Hello all new students!

We will all meet on Zoom, September 18th at 9.00 for the course introduction
Zoom: https://gu-se.zoom.us/j/62666341489

The aim of this course is to develop the ability to see and visualize, through drawing and interaction between drawing and 3-dimensional work, to be able to move between two- and three-dimensional design with preserved content. The aim is also to learn the basics in digital tools and techniques suitable for documenting, visualizing and presenting your work. After the course this knowledge will help you to develop, visualize and present your ideas, visions and designs.

The course consists of two modules: sketch methodology and 3D form theory as well as digital tools and form and composition.

For your first day with Oleksandra she ask you to prepare the following:

Materials to bring:

  • Sketchpad/Drawing paper A3 (less dense)
  • Sketchpad/Drawing paper A2 (dense)
  • Pencils (H,HB and 2B and softer, recommended)
  • Erasers (soft for pastel/charcoal and standard)
  • Charcoal
  • Paper clips to fasten papers to drawing board

Optional:

  • Paper stump (for shading)
  • Charcoal pastels (black and white

I recommend:

  • Take with you a few simple and complicated still life objects that you are interested in painting. This can be something related to your academic specialization:
    • Simple object: light color without pattern, minimal detail and texture (e.g. box, book, apple, ball, vase).
    • Complicated: several colors, small details, pattern, texture (e.g. collectible car, chainsaw, pineapple, doll).
  • Find references that inspire you, where the technique of drawing with a simple pencil and charcoal is used.
  • Music:Fast music for fast sketches. Slower or neutral music for slow still lifes where you need to figure out the perspective. The musical background affects the process and the result.

We are very much looking forward to meeting you all!
/Magnus, Jeff, Oleksandra
