Welcome to this course!
This course gives an introduction to Chinese propaganda och Chinese propaganda expressions (words, images and music) from the first half of the 20th century until today, primarily under the PRC but also in relation to Hongkong, Macau och Taiwan. We also discuss the concept of propaganda in general and Chinese propaganda aimed abroad.

The course will be examined through an individual written assignment (in English), but everyone should also do a brief oral presentation in Chines about a relevant topic. The written assignment should be about ca 2500 words and you hand it in on a special Canvas page at the latest 28 March kl. 18.00. In this assignment you can write more in-depth on an issue that you take interest in or want to know more about. It is also a training to write academically, and you must use full academic reference style throughout the paper, but you can choose which one, Harvard, APA, Oxford etc. You must also take the online course Academic integrity on Canvas. Please go through the course and do the test – you can repeat it until you know it all and get full points. When you have passed that course I will be sent an automatic message, but please send me a message if you have already done the course before. All assignments will sent through or plagiary control system Ouriginal. To plagiarise others texts is not allowed, and please also note that you cannot copy your own text! At the Student portal you can find several webpages on academic writing, references mm, and you can also get help with academic language.
At the last session of the course you must do an oral presentation in Chinese (ca five minutes) about a propaganda phenomenon, an interesting poste, a slogan or something else relevant for the course. It could be the same topic that you write about in your final assignment or something else. The oral presentation is part the course assessment.
