Overview of content

We will cover (parts of) the following Sections in [EW]:

Chapter 2 (Norms and Banach Spaces) - Sections 2.1, 2.2, 2.3 2.4
Chapter 3 (Hilbert Spaces) - Sections 3.1, 3.2
Chapter 4 (Uniform Boundedness and the Open Mapping Theorem) - Sections 4.1, 4.2
Chapter 6 (Compact Self-Adjoint Operators) - Sections 6.1, 6.2
Chapter 7 (Dual Spaces) - Section 7.1
Chapter 8 (Locally Convex Vector Spaces) - Section 8.1

Examination

The examination consists of 4 homework assignments, a student project, and individual oral examination. Each will be graded with points, which will be added to determine the final grade:

G (Godkänd/Pass), corresponding to 50-74 points (with minimum 20 points on homework and 15 points on oral exam), or

VG (Väl Godkänd/Very Good - Pass with distinction), 75-100

(A) Assignments (40 points)

There will be 4 hand-in homework assignments, each will be graded with up to 10 points.

(P) Student Project (30 points)

Along the course there will be a student project, with groups of 3-4 members, that will produce a document to be handed in during the last week. It will be graded with up to 30 points.

(OE) Oral Examination (30 points)

Individual oral examinations in January 2024. The oral exam will test both the theory (definitions, theorems etc.) as well as solving a (simple) problem.

At the exam, you should be able to show valid identification.
After the exam has been graded, you can see your results in Ladok.
