Course overview
Statistics are often extremely valuable when important decisions are made concerning financial matters, community planning, environmental measures, technology and healthcare. The course introduces students to methods utilised to compile, present and calculate summary measurements for the description of statistical data. Basic probability calculations are also covered. Additionally, the course includes hypothesis testing, point estimation and interval estimation for one or two populations.

Course details
EKS111 is an 8 credits course offered in the first cycle (bachelor's level) and is included at the 1st semester of the Bachelor’s Programme in Business and Economics. The course is also open for visiting exchange students, as a free standing course. EKS111 is a full time course, lectured in English.
Course dates: 4 December 2023 - 14 January 2024
Course registration: Students must register for the course in Ladok. The course registration period commences the 27 November, please register as soon as possible.
Assessment
The learning outcomes of the course are assessed through a written e-examination. In addition to the compulsory written examination, there are two non-compulsory written assignments.

Please note that you, as a student, are responsible for complying with the rules for written examinations at the University of Gothenburg. It is therefore important that you read through this information well before your exam.
Some aspects of undertaking an e-examination are different from those of writing a paper-based exam. For example, a brought computer must meet specific system requirements, be able to connect to the eduroam network and have the Safe Exam Browser client installed. All necessary information can be found at the Student Portal. If you want to borrow a computer, it must be reserved in the TimeEdit system no later than five working days prior to the exam.
