Course information
The course gives a basic introduction to the principles governing motion in the the ocean. Great emphasis is put on the usage of quantitative mathematical expressions for describing physical phenomena.
The course covers the following topics:
- Basic properties of a fluid and stratification effects
- Derivation of simplified sets of equation describing large-scale oceanic flows
- Description of geostrophic flows, thermal wind, frictional effects
- Introduction to the basic theory of wind-driven ocean gyres.
This course is mostly given for students registered in BTH, thus information on this Canvas page will be mirrored with the BTH Canvas website.
