WELCOME to the Course BIO451 Experimental marine ecology V24!

Please register at Student Portal, Ladok on line (at least one week before the start of the course)

Course information

In this course you will get a "tool box" containing all you need to know to run a scientific experiment. The course starts with a theoretical part including an overview of hypothesis testing and experiments in different areas of marine ecology, experimental design and statistics, and scientific writing. The second part of the course is a group project where you will work rather independently on a real research question under supervision. In the last two weeks, you will practise your writing skills by writing a report of the group work in the form of a scientific paper (this is done individually).

The course runs between March 21 and June 2. The major part of the course (March 25 to May 17) will take place at Tjärnö marine laboratory. There will be a break for Easter (March 28 - April 3). The last two weeks (May 20 to June 2) will be devoted to distance teaching. There will not be any teaching in Gothenburg.

The roll-call will take place on Zoom at 09:00 on Thursday March 21 (link to zoom).

Accommodation at Tjärnö is free, but there is a cost for the food (7115 SEK excluding weekends and the Easter holiday). If you stay during weekends, you must arrange your own food. There is a small kitchen in the facility that you can use. During your stay, you will share room with another student. Please bring bed linnen and towels, as well as warm and waterproof clothing. The course involves a lot of field work!

If you have special food requirements then contact Gunilla Toth at gunilla.toth@marine.gu.se minimally two weeks prior to the course start (March 7).

Teachers on the course are:
