Course syllabus
Teaching
- There will be lectures delivered by the teacher, and seminar discussions, mostly led by students.
Literature
- This year, we will not be using a dedicated textbook for the course, but instead work with papers (both original research and "reviews"), encyclopedia entries, and excerpts from books. Everything will be "electronically available", either directly on Canvas, or publicly on the web, or through the e-services of the university library.
- Here are some examples of articles on relevant and fun and interesting topics. Exact selection is not decided yet!
- Maddy: The Philosophy of Logic
- Boolos: On Second-Order Logic
- MacFarlane: "Logical Constants" (SEP)
- Caroll: What the Tortoise said to Achilles
- Cook: Let a Thousand Flowers Bloom
- Evershed: Another way logic might be normative
- Incurvati & Smith: Rejection and valuations
- Students in the course will have opportunity to influence the selection!
Examination
- Be responsible for discussion of one topic (ungraded)
- Turn in a course paper (graded)
- Give a short oral presentation of that paper
