Welcome to Environmental Economics ES1601

Course Coordinator: Håkan Eggert 

This course gives a broad overview with some more in depth applications of how environmental problems are analyzed in economics. The course is open to any student with 120 hp. Students who have studied undergraduate courses in economics, but are interested in environmental economics are most welcome too. The course explaines why environmental problems occurs. We look at how problems can be solved and analyze the effects of regulations and policy instruments. The course also teaches social cost-benefit analysis of environmental problems including methods for environmental valuation. We also deal with resource management and general conditions for sustainable development.

The course starts on 3 September, 2024, Tuesday at 13.15 until 1600 in room XX at Handelshögskolan (School of Business, Economics and Law).  The exam November 1-4 takes place at Natrium, but may potentially be carried out at another university.

Course Requirements:

  • Participation in minimum 4 of 5 seminars
  • Presentation of literature in one seminar
  • Passed exam, i.e., minimum 30 points
  • Passed Computer lab, i.e., minimum 10 points
  • Grades are fail, pass, and high pass
  • Note that Computer lab can provide bonus credits of max 20 points to be included in exam result (i.e. exam max 60 points, pass requires total 40 points, including points from Computer lab). High pass requires total 60 of max 80 points.
  • Please note that the additional requirements for passing, i.e. seminars, presentation and bonus credits from computer lab are valid only a year from the course starts.
  • OBS! We use the old Swedish Academic Quarter System, which means that lectures 9-12 start at 9.15 and end at 12.00!
