Course Overview:

In the course Reflection III, the students complete an independent, reflective work about their film practice and the role of film practice and art in society. This work should be presented in writing in the form of a reflective essay. This essay is aimed at not only detailing individual film practice but also how it is in conversation with the wider society and film practices of other relevant filmmakers.

During the course, the reflective work is developed through workshops, peer-to-peer discussions, individual writing, and group discussions on various facets of research-led film practice: ethics, aesthetics, artistic methodology, politics, etc.

The course builds on and is informed with close reference to the work developed during the course Film Practice IV.

Main Learning Activities:

Intensives: The MAFI23 Reflective Course will be conducted through Intensives (weeks of study), which consist of a.o. individual assignments, seminars, workshops and group discussions. In preparation for these intensives, you will be asked to read relevant texts and carry out writing tasks.

Writing circle/reading group: There will be two writing circles /reading groups in which the focus is on dedicated space and time for writing. Students will be responsible for planning and carrying out manageable goals during these writing circles. While everyone will get plenty of time to focus on their own writing, the idea is also to support each other in their processes.

One-on-One: There will be two short One-on-One with the course-responsible teacher in the course in which your drafts are discussed.
