Information about your course: Critical Perspectives on Design

Hi everyone,

Welcome to Critical Perspectives on Design (EMD21A). We will have our first course meeting on Monday 15 November at 9:00 in room 619.

This course is an exploration into the concept of "The Act of Gathering" in public space. Together, we will explore critical perspectives on design within both material and spatial contexts, whilst collaborating with an external partner on the future of Grönsakstorget. At the end of the course, we will have developed a collective understanding of the complexities surrounding public spaces, developed our prototyping skills, and cultivated a critical lens that enhances and questions collaborative design practices.

The course will consist of a combination of guest lectures, on-site prototyping, and feedback workshops, and will sit alongside Design Studies seminars. You will work initially in groups on a design project set up in collaboration with Göteborg Stad Stadsmiljöförvaltningen (The City Environment Administration), and have the opportunity to continue your investigations in smaller groups, pairs, or individually. Further information about project and individual work will be provided during our course kick-off.

Please spend some time looking around Canvas after our first meeting. You can check the schedule in TimeEdit with the code EMD21A, but please be aware that the Canvas calendar contains the most up-to-date information and will be the one used as our main schedule interface.
