Degree project (15.0 Credits)
Responsible teacher and supervisors; Theodore Harper-Davis, Åsa Norman, Yuka Oyama
You continue your independent artistic project based on the project plan you presented during the course Master's Degree Project in Craft 1.
The implementation of your ideas as well as your investigation of processes, materials and methods should come into focus. There will be a much more independent structure to enable the development and production of new and individual expressions in Ceramic Art, Jewellery Art or Textile Art.
The main examination of the degree project is carried out in a seminar, closed to the public, with the student, examiner, professor/lecturer and opponent. If a different completion is requested - the completion will be examined at a later set date with the professor/lecturer, examiner and student present.
The culmination of your time at HDK will be presented to the public in a gallery context, opening on May 4th.
Final Exhibition (communication, profiling, identity, collaboration) 7.5 Credits
Responsible teacher and supervisor; Theodore Harper-Davis
You have identified a platform for exhibiting your work (Gallery Thomassen) . You evaluate possible future contexts to work within and develop forms for profiling your artistic work. You work on planning and making decisions about how you want to show your work with the course leader in the Gallery space. This forms the basis for planning of how the degree project shall be displayed and communicated in a public context. Within the framework of a degree exhibition, you present finished works of art with descriptive texts and visual material in both English and Swedish.
Degree Report (7.5 Credits)
The degree report comes in two parts that are interrelated. Part A is written in an academic style and Part B enables writing that is more personal and process led.
The relationship between Part A and Part B depends on the type of writing the student choses to explore. Some submissions will read more like a single cohesive text and others will read like two very different voices writing from an academic perspective about guiding ideas (Part A) and then from a personal perspective closer to the outcome of the practice (Part B).
Part A of the MA2 Degree Report is a critical research paper 2000 words in length. The writing must include academic references (APA style) that communicate the research that informs your studio practice. The report may include a variety of theoretical, contextual and technical sources. Remember that images of your own work (including sketches and plans) as well as the work of others can also be an effective form of communication. A list of references should be included at the end of the critical research paper.
Part B of the MA2 Degree Report has the character of a personal statement describing the processes leading up to the finished examination. You can use parts of your diary during the work, or other activities that you feel are relevant. You are meant to write in your own personal voice, finding concrete or poetic correspondences that bring forth what you want to say, bringing in artists or other contexts/ structures that have influenced the choices you have made. The length of Part B should be around 2000 words, including a proper reference list.
Part A and Part B are meant to work together as a whole.
