Welcome to the course in Marine Geology (GVG320), fall semester 2024

To register for the course, please go to  Student portal, Ladok on web (earliest one week before course start)

Course information

The aim of the course is to provide a broad understanding of marine geology by defining processes and phenomena associated with sedimentation, sediment accumulation and sediment types prevailing in the oceans from the continental margins to the deep sea. The course gives a base for more advanced studies in marine geology and is divided in two parts, which both needs to be taken in order to complete the entire course with “passed” (godkänd):

  1. Theory, 4 hp: lectures and independent work with literature assignment “Marine climate proxies”. The literature assignment is written in a form of a short report and is presented in front of the entire class during the seminar.
  2. Exercises and fieldwork, 3.5 hp: practical part, which includes fieldwork with R/V Skagerak including sediment sampling in fjords on the Swedish west coast, laboratory work and sediment sample preparation.
