Welcome to the course EN1321, "Linguistic Research Project", 15 hec
The course aims to provide students with the necessary tools for writing and defending a scholarly work (here, a Bachelor's degree essay) in English linguistics. For information on the various details of the course, follow the links below:
Find syllabus and reading list by clicking this link.
The schedule for this course is different than those you may be used to from previous courses. There are two meetings that include all the EN1321 students, 1) the introduction and 2) the final seminar (see TimeEdit for specific dates/times/rooms). The remaining sessions (at least four, though sometimes a supervisor may suggest more), are scheduled to correspond to the so-called 'stations' (see this link for the spring term, see this link for the fall term). These supervision sessions can be organized as either group sessions or individual sessions, and the format (and exact dates/times) for these are determined individually between the supervisor and the student.
The supervisors for this term are:
- Timothy Roberts (timothy.roberts@sprak.gu.se)
- Joe Trotta (joe.trotta@sprak.gu.se)
- Amy Wanyu Ou (amy.ou@sprak.gu.se)
PLEASE NOTE: To get a supervisor and get your project started EVEN IF YOU ARE CONTINUING A PROJECT YOU STARTED IN A PREVIOUS TERM, you need tell us what your project plans are.
Download this Topic suggestion form and submit it in the relevant assignment folder by September 9.
In addition to supervision sessions, we offer two activities to support your project work:
- The university library (UB) schedules a workshop on how to find relevant literature for your project. See TimeEdit for the date, time and location for this session.
- ASK (GU's Unit for Academic Language and Writing) will give a lecture that should be relevant for students writing their BA essays - See TimeEdit for details regarding date, time and room number.
More practical information on the EN1321 course n can be found under "Modules" and "Assignments" in the menu on the left. See in particular the module 'Resources' for links to a study guide, a style sheet and a template for BA essays, among other things.
