SOL103, Somali Grammar 2 for Mother Tongue Speakers

In this course, the understanding of Somali as a linguistic system is further developed. The perspective is contrastive. Focus is on morphology and syntax, but also word formation and phonetics are treated briefly. The basis of the course is a reference grammar written in Somali where the language is described from a native language perspective. Short extracts from other descriptions are also studied for comparison. Pros and cons of the different presentations are discussed. The students' knowledge of basic linguistic terminology in Somali is strengthened, and the students' understanding of the relation between structures in different languages is also strengthened.

The course consists of 18 weekly modules. Each week consists of a number of things to do: texts to read, recordings to listen to, short videos to see, and exercises and translations to do. Therefore, it is important to work regularly and log in to Canvas practically every day.
