Introduction to Contemporary Arts and Politics 

Responsibles: Nkule Mabaso and Thiago de Paula Souza

 This is a survey course that introduces key political themes in relation to contemporary artistic practices, theories and institutions and its agents.It is informed by ongoing research and operates as a summer-long enquiry -  What are the relationships between contemporary art and politics?

Among the weekly themes are: I'll be your mirror:politics of difference, visibility and representation, The museum is burning—Archive Fever and the politics of display”; Computer LOVE - (technology, art, law, justice) and Territorial struggles and Ecologies (war, indigenous, climate, land struggles, settler colonialism, coloniality)

 

This scheme operates as capsules and as an organizational mode to present ideas, contexts and practices that sustain our teaching and despite this thematic focus all of the weeks are interrelated.

Register for your courses

To confirm your place on the course, you must register. It is only when you are registered that you are considered a student on the course and have access to all course materials in Canvas.

You register for the course in Ladok. The registration is open from May 27th-30th May, 2024. If you do not register on time, you will lose your place on the course.
