Course content description:
Are you generally interested in commercial law? Do you have an interest in trade, transport, digitalisation and sustainability? Would you like to negotiate a contract with practical inputs from industry experts? Then "Shipping Law, Digitalisation and Sustainability" could be a course for you to consider during the spring semester. Also, this is the third course within the field of maritime law that the Department of Law has invested in.
The course deals with the legal framework of international trade and transport with particular focus on sea carriage, as a substantial portion of international trade is transported by sea. The course covers essential areas of commercial shipping and trade law which comprise both international convention regimes and domestic laws. Five main subject areas covered under the course are – bills of lading and charterparties, other contracts of carriage including multimodal transport, law of marine insurance, law of international sale of goods, and trade finance law. Emerging legal issues related to digitalisation and sustainability concerns connected to commercial shipping and trade are dealt in the course in contextual detail.
