Course syllabus
Welcome to the course MPH222 Health economics: foundations, areas of application and methodology, Spring 2025
This course consists of two parts. In part 1, you shall go through the journey about microeconomic theories and its applications in health and healthcare analysis, with particular applications in the area of health care financing considering the efficiency and equity as the goals of health care financing system in any country.
Part 2 of the course will introduce the basics of economic evaluation of health interventions and finally relate ethical consideration in priority setting for public health and health care decision making.
Throughout the course, you will also be introduced to the empirical methods used in health economic research. These methods are applied across various fields to study the causes of health inequality, assess the effects of organizational changes or health policies, and evaluate public health interventions.
Since target 3.8 of the Sustainable Development Goals aims at achieving universal health coverage by 2030, the knowledge about health care financing and the efficient and equitable use of healthcare funds should be useful for you to contribute to this global mission of universal health care, declared by the United Nations.
Our teaching team with 5 academic and research experts in health economics will be available to support you throughout this course.
