Course syllabus
Welcome to STA140 Regression methods!
Study period: November 5, 2025 - January 18, 2026
Registration period: October 29, 2025 - November 12, 2025
Course materials
All materials are organized under Modules. We will meet for lectures on Fridays and seminars/computer sessions on Tuesdays. There are some more sessions planned shortly before Christmas to give us enough material for studying around the change of the years. Often, there is some material to read before the lecture. The first such reading can be found here.

Course literature
As course literature, we have chosen two books (Literature list). The one by Weisberg (Applied Regression Analysis, 4th edition, Wiley 2014 - available as hard copy in the library) has the right amount of mathematical detail, however, does not cover in detail all topics we will discuss in the course. The second book by Kutner et al (Applied linear statistical models, 5th edition, McGraw-Hill, 2005) is a bit more detailed on the mathematical derivations, but it also contains more material on random effects and logistic regression. The books are rather old, but they are used in comparable courses in North America (if you google) and we are listing them to disclose what the course materials are mostly based on. Nevertheless, all necessary topics will be also covered by the course materials provided here on Canvas!
Examinations
The course is examined via an individual home assignment and its oral presentation (on January 15/16, 2026) and a digital exam. The digital exam (DISA) will take place on January 9, 2026, 13:00-17:00 in the university's common exam hall, Andra Långgatan 19.
Deadline for registration: December 30, 2025.
You can find important information about examination in the common exam halls here.
Students with a documented disability who require extra writing time or other adaptions must report this to the course administrator before the course starts, but no later than four weeks before the exam. Please read the information before you fill in the application form.
