Course overview

EKN111 Macroeconomics (6 credits) presents, at an introductory level, how an economy works at a societal level. During the course, key concepts such as GDP, growth, inflation and unemployment are discussed, as well as how these are related to each other. The main features of the Swedish economy are presented. Students will also learn how monetary and fiscal policy can affect economic activity. Fundamental macroeconomic models are covered and the course provides an understanding of how to use these to analyse various economic problems. The course also shows how economic analysis differs across the short, medium and long run.

Course details

EKN111 Macroeconomics (6 credits) is included in the second semester of the Bachelor’s Programme in Business and Economics. The course is also open to visiting exchange students.

Course dates: 19 January - 15 February (quarter 1). Course registration in Ladok opens on 12 January.

Assessment

The learning outcomes of the course are assessed through a written e-examination. In addition to the compulsory written examination, there are non-compulsory assignments, such as tests.
